Flourish51

Flourishing by design.

We are a creative studio on a mission to help the world flourish…by design

DESIGN WITH SOUL

Flourish51 is a creative studio integrating well-being science into human-centered design.

We help you design systems for life & work where flourishing is both the soul and the outcome.

"Flourishing is the relative attainment of a state in which all aspects of a person's life are good — including the contexts in which that person lives."

Global Flourishing Study · VanderWeele et al.

Flourish51

OUR VISION

A galvanized global 51 by 51 movement toward one of the most ambitious public health goals of our time:

51% of the world flourishing by 2051.

OUR MISSION

To make well-being science accessible, practical, holistic, and present in the rhythms of everyday life by infusing flourishing-centered design into the ways people live, love, and work.

Our Values

Integrity:
We practice what we teach. Our business model reflects our commitment to flourishing.

Evidence-Based
Grounded in rigorous science, not just feel-good philosophy.

Inclusive:
Flourishing is a universal human right.

Sustainable:
We build for long-term transformation.

Flourishing-centered

We challenge conventional approaches when they don't serve flourishing.

Failure-proof

We view life and work as a continuous series of high-energy prototypes—every setback is simply "field data" used to calibrate and refine your next move toward flourishing

4 Living Labs.

1 Approach: Flourishing-Centered Design (FCD)

Introducing Flourish51’s 4 Living labs : Dynamic spaces that continuously learn from & evolve with the people they serve

  1. LIFE DESIGN @ The GEM Lab— Lifelong tools to design a life that feels coherent, energizing, and unmistakably your own — designed with intention, sustained across every season.

  2. ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN @ THRIVE Lab Measurable performance, retention, and growth — driven by a flourishing culture, venture, or community.

  3. GLOBAL FLOURISHING EXPEDITIONS @ GEM Journeys— Life-changing insights from around the world for a transformed understanding of how to live well

  4. FCD FOR YOUTH @ Flourishing Youth Academy—A generation of young people with the self-knowledge, life skills, and leadership capacities to thrive in a world that demands all three.

  • The GEM Lab

Where individual flourishing gets designed from the inside out at every season of a human life—from emerging adults, families, mid-life redesigners, and elders designing their legacy.

    ‍ ‍

  • The THRIVE LAB

A space for ventures of all sizes—from start ups to re-designs of businesses, nonprofits, projects, products or services—to ignite human potential by intentionally designing flourishing into the systems.

    ‍ ‍

  • GEM Journey

Curated learning expeditions into the world's living cultures of flourishing. Bespoke and structured as ethnographic research to gain insights into what it means to flourish. GEM Journeys bring small groups to real places for durable impact.

  • Flourishing Youth Academy

FYA is how Flourish51’s labs extend into youth. FYA teaches flourishing-centered life & venture design to young people (ages 11–26) at the stages where identity and direction are being shaped.

 Why Flourishing Matters Now

The world is not flourishing. The data makes it clear.

  1. Performance without flourishing is unstable.

    • Disengagement, distress, and loneliness eventually erode productivity, trust, and retention.

  2. Prevention is a design challenge.

    • Belonging, agency, and meaning can be shaped by environments, rituals, policies, and systems.

  3. Flourishing is measurable.

    • We now have enough evidence to design toward it with intention instead of treating it as a soft byproduct.

Youth Well-being

Gen Z Reports the Lowest Mental Well-Being of Any Adult Generation

A majority of young people report a low sense of purpose and high anxiety about the future — including climate and economic uncertainty.

Well-being @ Work

$8.9 Trillion/year— Costs of Employee Disengagement

The evidence shows that most employees are surviving, not thriving. Organizations can have strong strategy and talent yet experience performance dips due to employee stress and disengagement.

Global & country-level flourishing

GDP growth alone does not produce flourishing.

Countries can be economically strong yet socially fragmented or psychologically strained. No country has achieved consistently high flourishing across all life domains.

  • 1 in 7 adolescents lives with a mental health condition

    WHO

  • 70% of mental health conditions begin before age 18 — most go untreated

    WHO

  • Top 3–5 causes of death for young people globally includes suicide

    WHO

  • ↓ Declining life satisfaction among youth, especially in high-income nations

    Global studies

  • 21% of employees globally are engaged at work

    Gallup, 2024

  • 44% report experiencing stress daily — a near-record high

    Gallup, 2024

  • 1 in 5 feels lonely at work, even in team environments

    Gallup

  • $9 trillion lost annually to disengagement & poor wellbeing

    Global economy

  • 25% of people globally are considered "thriving" in overall wellbeing

    Gallup World Poll

  • 2–3× gap between top- and bottom-ranking countries on wellbeing

    Harvard Global Flourishing Study (GFS)

  • 0 countries have achieved high flourishing across all life domains

Introducing Flourishing-Centered Design (FCD)

Flourish51’s nature-inspired methodology for cultivating flourishing across any living system.

Our Core Premise

Life already knows how to flourish when the conditions are right.

FCD functions as a living, adaptive practice of human-centered design shaping the conditions for individuals, teams, organizations, schools, communities, products, and institutions to thrive.

Our Design Rhythm

4 phases of design across interconnected domains of well-being present in all human systems

Our design process functions as a practical framework that follows a living rhythm inspired by nature. To create a holistic map of flourishing across key well-beings domains from which we design.

Hello, World!

FCD

  • Weaves together 3 Fields: The science of human flourishing, human-centered design, and biomimicry to expand from engineering outcomes to designing the conditions in which flourishing can naturally emerge.

  • Functions as a living methodology: that mirrors natural cycles of: observation, emergence, growth, rest, and regeneration, offering a structured yet flexible way to cultivate flourishing over time.

01

The science of human flourishing

Positive psychology, neuroscience, contemplative science, human development

02

Human-centered design

Empathy, iteration, participatory design, systems thinking

03

Biomimicry and living systems theory

Adaptation, interdependence, regeneration, emergence

  • "Of all the virtues we can learn, no trait is more useful... than the ability to transform adversity into an enjoyable challenge."

    Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

  • "When well-being comes from engaging our strengths and virtues, our lives are imbued with authenticity."

    Martin Seligman

  • "The good life consists in deriving happiness by using your signature strengths every day... the meaningful life adds one more component: using these same strengths to forward knowledge, power or goodness."

  • The happiest people spend much time in a state of flow - the state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.

    Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

  • “Flourishing is living in a state in which all aspects of a person’s life are good, including the contexts in which that person lives.”

    Human Flourisning Program, Harvand University

  • Every 100 dollars invested in enhanced behavioral health reduced medical claims by 190 dollars, a 1.9x return

  • Educational work on “academic flourishing” shows that when schools focus on wellbeing and character alongside achievement, students show better motivation, engagement, and long‑term academic outcomes.

  • Firms that invest in wellbeing, see lower turnover and absenteeism; estimates suggest that up to 42% of turnover is preventable and that replacing an employee costs roughly 50–200% of their annual salary

  • School-based flourishing interventions that build mindfulness and emotional skills in teachers have been shown to increase teacher flourishing and significantly improve students’ academic performance compared with control classrooms.

  • Good mental health requires more than the mere absence of a mental illness. People aren't necessarily functioning well just because they don't have major depression or another mental illness.

  • Insustry research shows that when teams experience higher intrinsic satisfaction, support, and engagement, performance improves—through better service, lower errors, and higher retention.

  • The evidence suggests that well‑designed mental health and wellbeing investments routinely produce 2x–4x financial returns

  • SDG 3 aims to reduce premature mortality from non‑communicable diseases by one‑third and promote mental health and wellbeing by 2030.

  • Raising flourishing to 51% globally would mean billions more people with the health, skills, and stability to participate fully in economies—expanding markets, strengthening tax bases, and reducing the costs of conflict, displacement, and social unrest.

  • We believe all living systems flourish when the full dimensions of well-being are intentionally nurtured and aligned.

    Flourish51

  • Flourishing-Centered Design is the next evolution of human development: moving beyond siloed fixes toward integrated, whole-system flourishing.

    Flourish51

  • 6× more engaged at work when using signature strengths daily

  • Employees who are thriving in wellbeing are 2–3× more likely to be engaged and significantly less likely to experience burnout.

  • 28% stronger 10-year ROI for design-led organizations

  • Indonesia, Mexico, and the Philippines ranked among the highest on flourishing. The findings show some middle-income societies outperform richer nations on meaning, relationships, and pro-social life.

    Harvard Global Flourishing Study

  • The world is well below “51% flourishing,” and the gap represents billions of people living with preventable ill‑health, underused potential, and unstable livelihoods.

The 2051 Moonshot

51% of humanity
flourishing
by 2051.

Today only

~ 7 - 33%

of the global population

is flourishing*

*Doing well across happiness, health, relationships, meaning, and financial security

2051’s adults are already today’s children.

Flourishing is a global public health priority that demands urgent action.

By not investing in flourishing today, we risk a future diminished in innovation, leadership, and social cohesion.

The 2051 moonshot calls for a cross‑sector coalition so that every classroom, workplace, clinic, app, street, and household becomes a tiny AND vital piece of the solution.

Let’s flourish together!
